Premiere! The video for Dangerous Youth (directed by Bryan Michael Holcomb / Mirage Productions) features a snowy rose garden with vocalist Amanda Sloan and shows how hard it can be to be a kid - don’t we all remember? Dangerous Youth EP is out 1-25 everywhere. Klokwize Finds New Voice In Nostalgia on Dangerous Youth EP, out 1/25 Hartford-born rapper / songwriter Klokwize is well known for his work with LA rap icons Suga Free and DJ Quik, his many songs and features on ESPN-TV networks, and his breakout 2012 album 'Hood Hippie' - but after returning home to Hartford, CT from Los Angeles, he felt the nostalgia creep in. 'I'd probably write a letter to the man I was a while back,' he laments warmly on Dangerous Youth, the title track from his new EP, out January 25th everywhere. The EP is 'a much more stripped-down vibe' says Klok. 'My last album (2017's pop-leaning Permission To Land') was done in LA with a lot more producers, but making this project was more for me. It's not aiming for your radio station. It's aiming for people's hearts. The whole record is about moving forward from the past. Just me telling stories, talking about life. There's so much we all experience.' The track 'Mama Forgive Me' finds Klok's honesty and reflection in the striking chorus: 'Mama forgive me, I know it's hard- Walking through the world with a hole in your heart.' Klok adds, 'I just felt misunderstood the last couple years. Not everybody can write the happy, dance-able music I know how to write. But the world has not been a happy place lately. It almost felt negligent as an artist not to feel that. Dangerous Youth is me coming back home and looking at how a kid has to view that world now - and maybe how it views him sometimes.' 'Anymore' finds him addressing the world's uncertain political climate with: 'It's hard turnin' my eyes to fear, lies and disguise / Corporations and institutionalized - fascism and classicism / The masses living in bad conditions, suffering from past decisions.' The jazzy musical backdrops of Dangerous Youth's 7 tracks come from longtime collaborators Ant Quint, XOPTF, and CTNOW Music Award-winning producers Isaac Young and Miles Elliot. 'I feel like this is the album he’s always wanted to make,' says Elliot, a Bloomfield native. 'It’s a reflection of the man behind the music. As a producer, I strive to capture those emotions sonically. Klokwize took the ball and ran with it further than I could've ever imagined.' Guest vocalists like HOT 93.7 favorite Mike Flowz and bi-coastal songstress Angela Luna add their grit and soul to the affair, releasing on all music streaming outlets like iTunes, Spotify, Tidal & more. Maybe Klok put it best. 'I feel like we found the 'new' in 'nostalgia.' Dangerous Youth is out everywhere January 25th and more information can be found at klokwize.net and @Klokwize. |
